Patch notes: Latest and upcoming UI updates

June 2026: Accessibility, Mobile support, and Board Overview redesign

This article will go over some of Claned’s most recent and shortly upcoming platform updates. The Claned Team is working on a light overhaul of the platform’s user interface with a view to improving accessibility, navigational user friendliness, and learner guidance.

GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS

Accessibility

The overall platform’s accessibility standard has been brought into compliance with WCAG 2.0, with aria labels, increased visual contrast on buttons and boards’ Overviews, as well as more easily identifiable three-dot menus on cards in the board feeds.

Efforts to improve in-content accessibility are still ongoing and are set to go live in the near future.

Mobile version

Using Claned on a mobile device or with other smaller non-desktop screens is now a smoother experience. The scaling of PDF content for small screens works significantly better, and a number of UI scaling bugs have been fixed.

BOARD INTERFACE UPDATES

The board view has been updated both functionally and stylistically, except for the Content and Track tabs, which remain largely unchanged for now. These updates will go live 1 July 2026.

Visual style updates

The main style changes are focused on the Overview tab. The board title and the tabs have moved up on top of a more compressed background image, to increase visibility for the most important elements in the page body and decrease cognitive load. The tabs have gained a new look, including a clearer visual indicator for the active tab.

The page body has also seen some minor redesigns, the most marked being the relocation of the Board admin list into the Board description section. This is to highlight the primary point of contact for learners who have questions about their learning journey.

Functional updates

The most significant functional change in the Overview tab is the addition of a Call to action (CTA) card. The CTA card provides learners with clear guidance to start or continue learning. When opening a board, learners will see at a glance how far they have come in the board and what they’ll be learning about next. Navigating to the relevant content is achieved by one click of a button.

The Announcements section has been limited to display the 2-3 most recent announcements to avoid inundating the Overview with old news items. Older announcements will be available to read in a side panel, opened through a View all button.

Below the announcements, a new element has been added – Upcoming deadlines. If a board has content with set deadlines or time-limited availability, their dates will be listed here. The full list of board deadlines, including ones that have passed and ones that have more pressing deadlines ahead of them, can be found in a similar side panel to the Announcements section. If a board has no deadlines, the Deadlines section will not appear at all.

The Recent activity feed has been moved from the Overview to a new main tab: Activity. The Activity tab is divided into subsections, giving all board members access to an Unanswered questions feed as well as one for All comments. Admins and teachers will see an additional section, Updates, which documents the changes made to the board by admins. This feed was previously visible to all users in the Overview tab.
