With Claned you can create assessments for different purposes. This quick guide will cover the basics of assessment creation.
1. Click on Add content
2. Select the Assessment content type
3. Give the assessment a title and a description
A good description includes not only the essential requirements of the assessment – such as deadline, score weight in relation to the final grade, and limits on session length and number of attempts – but gives the learner an idea of the assessment's purpose with regards to the board's learning goals.
4. Click on Add new question to add questions
5. Type your question
Below, you can add annotation for your question. This can include a larger chunk of text like a set of instructions. This is also visible to learners in addition to the question.
6. Select answer type from the drop down menu
Claned currently supports 5 different answer types.
Text Answer: For open-ended questions like essays or short answers. Responses must be graded manually.
True-False: Create a statement and mark it as True or False.
Multiple Choice – One Selection: Choose one correct answer from a set. Fully auto-graded. Each option must be unique.
Multiple Choice – Multiple Selection: Choose multiple correct answers. Points are divided among correct options, so adjust points accordingly. Fully auto-graded. Each option must be unique.
Attach File Answer: Upload a file as an answer. Any format is allowed. Must be graded manually.
7. Check the settings for each question
Choose the answer type
Define points available
You can attach images if you want to ask questions about an image
You can attach videos if you want to ask a question about a video
Add an explanation that will be visible for the learners after they have answered.
8. Mark the correct answer option(s)
Mark the correct answer option according to your question type with ticking "Correct" button.
9. Click on Add new question and repeat!
10. Rearrange, edit and delete your questions
Drag your question to another position from the arrows
Open and edit your question from the arrow pointing down
Delete questions from "x"
11. After you have created your question(s), configure Assessment settings
Note that you can edit settings later and you do not need to use all settings. However, editing an assessment's settings after it has already received responses may affect learners' grades retroactively. Read more
Set a deadline – By when does the assessment need to be completed? (This will de displayed in the board's Overview tab)
N attempts allowed – Define how many times a learner can answer the assessment
Set a time limit – Restrict how much time learners can spend on each attempt
Shuffle question order – Questions will appear in a randomized sequence
Show correct answers after each question – Information written in each question's Explanation field (as well as correct answers if the question is automatically graded) will be shown after the learner submits their answer
Show correct answers at the end of the assessment – Will show correct answers and explanations next to the learner's responses to each question once the they have finished the assessment
Scoring – Shows how many points are needed to pass
Show the score at the end of the assessment – Will show how many points the learner received in total
12. Add content cover picture and click Publish
